Class sizes are strictly limited so that students can get the most out of each course, the time spent with their teachers, and their fellow students. A Child’s Space – designs for life, learning, and creativity

Sarah J CarlsonLogo2
A Child’s Space focuses on creating environments designed to meet the needs of individual children and their families in a home setting, integrating content, organization, and layout. The approach is from an educational standpoint, honed from years of working with and observing kids, setting up classrooms and playrooms, and noting how great the impact environment can have on children’s confidence, mood, and productivity. The goal is to develop a space in which children feel at ease, and are surrounded by materials which inspire them to explore, investigate, and create. Equally important is the security in knowing where items can be found and returned, which provides a certain sense of pride, ownership, and independence within the space.

In regards to a child’s behavior, a clearly designed environment can greatly impact the success of outlined expectations, as well as support daily routines and work towards goals. Often times, children can become overstimulated by too much “stuff,” aggravated by sharing space with others, and lack the motivation to create and engage. The approach of A Child’s Space integrates organization, and a “sorting through” of what items are important to keep, rotate in and out, or give away. Also provided is the recommendation and implementation of books, materials, and toys, which can inspire the child and enhance or support a particular skill or interest. Larger pieces, including furniture, are also considered when needed to serve a greater function.

Every consultation, plan, and session of “hand on” work is all done with the utmost sensitivity towards and a respect for each child’s individuality and development. An optimized space for a child can have a positive, long term affect, not only on the child, but the whole family.
